Anne Menary
Anne makes entirely hand stitched pictures which reflect her enjoyment of early 20th Century Painting. Artists she admires include Chagall, Dufy, Kandinsky and Klee. Their composition, colour and narrative are a constant inspiration. The initial ideas are developed from sketchbook drawings and paper collage which are then worked on to hand made felt or fabrics. The images are built up using a variety of materials, objects and hand stitches. Images feature places, events and people together with a colourful imagination.
Anne says "The ideas develop as I work, often rather humorously. There is always a story behind the pictures but I like to leave room for the viewer to place their own interpretation on the piece." Anne obtained a degree in Embroidery from Birmingham Polytechnic and an Art Teachers certificate from Goldsmiths College, London.
