Paul Schatzberger's photographic work deals with aspects of health, mortality, and identity through portraiture, informed by family history and his medical background that, combined with an artist's view, gives him privileged access to the subjects he finds of interest. He is currently exploring and presenting his observations of personal and external space, and the play of different forms of light in those domains. These atmospheric images talk of absence - the buildings are often vacated, the rooms empty. Compared with the documentary approach of earlier work, often these new images are more likely to pose questions than provide answers.
