I have always been intrigued by the natural colours and textures of the sea shore, by the movement of the waves and the ripples left in the sand and by the wide horizons and the surface of the cliffs. Glass allows me to use layers of colour and texture to create an abstract image inspired by these memories.
I am also interested in the visual language used in abstract painting and place vertical and horizontal elements to try to instil a sense of calm and balance in the image. I originally used a simple palette of aqua, silver, black and white but I have recently added a new range of vibrant reds and oranges to explore how they change the work.
I don't try to recreate the natural world but I aim to create images that evoke a range of feelings and memories in the viewer and in me.
