Bren Head

Painter.

After an early retirement Bren developed an interest in painting which resulted in a degree in fine art and art history. In her paintings, working from intuition rather than pre- meditation, and through a process of creation and destruction, the paint and mark making often dictate what appears.

Bren employs a variety of media acrylic, oil, wax, plaster, textiles and collage to explore texture and surface. Scratched, scarred, and often destroyed and re -worked she returns to the work many times until she is satisfied with the finish.

Bren has shown widely in the U.K. and has exhibited with The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, The Ruth Borchard Portrait Prize and in 2015 was shortlisted for the R.A. Summer Exhibition.

She has work in The Priseman Seabrook Collection of 21st. Century Painting and in 2016 was selected for the Contemporary Portrait Award at The Biscuit Factory, Newcastle.

She works from her studio in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
