Like a Fool
John Brokenshire
Painting
Exhibition Run:
Friday 5th February - Sunday 21st March 2010
'Like a fool' is an exhibition specially designed for the two unique spaces at Cupola. John has, over recent years, developed a narrative figurative element in some of his paintings that is a compliment to as well as a development from his better known and highly regarded abstract works.
The main gallery (downstairs) will host John's purely abstract pieces, whereas the long gallery (upstairs) will show the what John's describes as "more edgy or challenging works".
"The power and beauty of all these paintings is that there is no 'correct' reading or interpretation but that the whole body of work is about a personal experience of places, thoughts, words, feelings and experience.
If the viewer relates to one or both of these bodies of work then they have shared an experience of the painter. Sometimes a mystery remains a mystery and this is valuable too."
- Karen Sherwood, Director
"It's with a real sense of pleasure that Cupola hosts John Brokenshire's exhibition 'Like a Fool'. John has been an integral part of Cupola for many years and is a highly respected local painter. With bags of talent and a reputation of producing high quality emotive work we can expect an exhibition that emits poetic sensitivity born out of the darker elements of life."
- Ian Gracey, Manager and Curator
