Lisa Slinn

Ceramicist

Lisa Slinn studied English at Birmingham university and taught in Birmingham schools. After suffering a brain trauma in a car crash Lisa found that her way to recovery was through creative practices. She spent a year at the Birmingham institute for art and design studying constructed textiles and then when on to study at Staffordshire university specialising in ceramics. Through out this period the practice of drawing, designing and mastering skills in clay work enabled her to recover from trauma and to begin a new career as a ceramicist.

From her studio in Lichfield, Staffordshire, Lisa Slinn creates highly decorative majolica ware. Whilst the form may look familiar, with some pieces created from skip rescued moulds, her idiosyncratic line drawings and hand painted images have a distinctly contemporary feel. Each piece is individual and looks to studio pottery as her main influence. The uniqueness of her work lies with-in her consideration for traditional form and a meaningful interpretation of historical patterns and images.

With humour and a lightness of touch, her art is clearly defined by her love of clay and illustration.
