Artist statement :

"Long distance walking within the wilderness and remote areas, particularly mountains and moorlands provides a constant source of material.

Walking in the elements enables me to paint and draw directly from nature reflecting the immediacy of my experience, responding both to the structural and textural detail and to transient, atmospheric qualities. These studies form the basis of my finished work.

Whilst much of the work has a starting point, I focus more on the experience of being in the landscape than on the geographical specifics of a site, responding to the work as it evolves.

I work in oils and charcoal and use a wide range of printmaking techniques. The unpredictability of the techniques used are also redolent of the unexpected incidents encountered on a journey through the wilderness."
