Janus Revisited - Mixed Group Show

19th March - 23rd April

Opening Friday 18th March 7:30pm

‘Janus Revisited’ an exhibition uncannily relevant in these current times.

In ancient Roman religion and myth, Janus is the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, frames and endings. In addition Janus also presided over the beginning and ending of conflict, and hence war and peace.

“When we planned this exhibition we were thinking about how the experience of living through and with the pandemic of Covid 19 has shaped our lives and how all history, both private and societal affects and shapes each and every one of us. We were inviting artists to respond to this theme as a way of framing and considering our way through difficult and changing times. The recent invasion of Ukraine has shocked us all and now the exhibition theme seems uncannily prescient.

I believe that art is a powerful tool which can and does help both artists and viewers understand and manage difficult and challenging themes without words. The current situation does make me view the works on exhibition in a different light.” Karen Sherwood, Director
