Jill Iliffe
Jill works in oil, egg tempera, watercolour and graphite to create works that aim to connect the viewer to the artist. Each person looking brings their own story and memories and Jill does not want to give everything, but for the viewer to look for a narrative connection to the work. She is interested in the connection between artist and viewer, which gives her work an incomplete narrative, allowing the viewer to fill in the spaces that she leaves.
Working from archival imagery and imagined narratives, she reflects on the personal and collective histories of women, allowing them to exist as specific individuals and as universal symbols of community, friendship and identity. The aim is to create works that feel both nostalgic and contemporary, inviting viewers to reflect on memory, belonging and connection
