Louise Ventriss
Statement
As an artist, my work delves into the metaphor of journeys, capturing the grit and raw beauty of the everyday. From commuting through dark nights, navigating school runs, or being stuck waiting. These are the shared experiences that shape our human journey. The daily commute isn't just a routine; it can be a reflection of life’s struggles and resilience. Stuck in traffic, caught in the gridlock of modern existence, these "dead time" moments can feel like an endless stretch of stress and futility. Yet, it’s in these fleeting instances that I look for inspiration. Observing the world around me, I capture these moments through my art, turning the mundane into something meaningful. My paintings often feature scenes of commuting and travel. Vehicles and roadways serve as reflections on modern life and societal rhythms. There’s an underlying tension, a complexity in these moments that I strive to convey in every piece. The stark, unfiltered reality of our daily lives forms the backdrop to a narrative that’s both personal and universal. Ultimately, my goal is to create work that speaks to the human experience, capturing an aspect of living. Through my art, I aim to tell stories of the moments and raw beauty found in the most ordinary of days.
