A Workshop by Sam Groom at Hillsborough Makers Shed 2 October

In the build up to Sam Grooms solo show with us in October she will be putting on a workshop at Bradbury Makers Shed in Hillsborough Park Walled Garden.

An introduction to soft-cut lino printing

Sunday 2nd October 2022  10am – 4pm

On this workshop, which will take place in the Bradbury Makers Shed in Hillsborough Park, Sheffield, you will learn each stage of the process of lino-cut printing from drawing and cutting out your design, to mixing ink and applying it to your lino. You will also be shown how to use my table top printing press to produce your prints.

Lino-cut printing is very popular and prints created using this technique have a very distinctive look. ‘Soft cut’ lino is easier to work with than wood or traditional lino and is an excellent introduction to block printing in general.

To begin, we can look for inspiration in the beautiful walled garden that is right next door to the workshop, or if you prefer you can bring along any imagery, sketches, photos, etc that you would like to work from.

We will be using colourful water based inks to print onto a selection of different papers and at the end of the day you will have several original and unique prints to take home and frame.

Bring your own lunch or alternatively there are many lovely cafes locally where you can buy lunch to take away. We can eat lunch in the beautiful gardens or if the weather isn’t so good we can eat in the studio and continue with our work or sit back for a while, chat and reflect on the morning’s progress.

I will provide homemade cakes and biscuits and tea coffee, juice, etc throughout the day for those peckish moments.

All equipment and materials provided. No previous experience necessary. Workshop is from 10am ’til 4pm.

This workshop is for complete beginners or for those with previous printmaking experience.
