Jonathan Hooper - The Colour of Place

  • Cupola Contemporary Gallery Middlewood Road Sheffield, S6 United Kingdom (map)

Jonathan Hooper

6 June - 4 July

For the last fifteen years, Jonathan's exclusive subject has been the domestic architecture of Leeds, his adoptive home city. The paintings in this exhibition show places within a short walk of his home in Headingley - the suburb's characteristic red-brick terraces and semis; hedges, trees, walls, footpaths; as well as older buildings, reminders of the history of the area before it was swallowed up by the expanding city of Leeds. His non-naturalistic colour is an attempt to grasp the physical experience of being in a place, and the way this mixes with memory and emotion.
